ADAPTABLE RESILIENT DYNAMIC LEADERS

ON TRACK TO REOPEN

After a complete shut-down of all roller derby training since March Albany Roller Derby and The Track are re-opening to the Albany community from June 18th.

With support from Mick Stephen and MCB Construction Pty Ltd, the club has been able to open until September 2020 and re-start roller derby training, roller discos and kids programs like the popular Skate Like a Girl and Junior Roller Skate.  With the aim to return to all other activities as soon as possible.

“We have always been so well supported by the Albany community and we are asking again that they show their support by attending our roller discos, skating programs and joining roller derby as a new skater” said club president Natalie Jarvis. The Track is home to all roller sports in the Albany area but is also available for private hire, roller skate birthdays and birthday parties.

Like many community sporting clubs, Albany Roller Derby rely on fundraising activities to generate income to afford the commercial lease on The Track, so community participation is vital in keeping the venue open into the future.

Junior Roller Skate and Skate Like a Girl will commence in Term 3 and people interested in joining can contact us here.  All programs are run by qualified coaches who have all done additional COVID health and safety training in line with Government return to play guidelines.

There will also be the COVID-19 cleaning and distancing rules in place with a COVID 19 Safety Officer appointed and volunteers stepping up to make sure all activities are safe and follow guidelines.  There will be no shared safety equipment and hire skates being disinfected after use.

The return to opening The Track and restarting roller derby would not have been made possible without the hard work of the executive team, coaches and track manager. Natalie Jarvis said “We have lost track of the hours spent writing grants, emails, planning documents, zooming, meeting face to face, calling, sometimes crying, but this would not be possible without the collective passion of these folk”

The club is awaiting the outcome of the application to Lotterywest for funding to ensure their longevity.
