Albany V Bunbury August 18th

Albany v Bunbury in August Battle

In what is set to be another amazing roller derby game showcasing women’s sport, Albany takes on Bunbury at The Track with another sell out crowd expected.

August 18 will mark the first time Albany Great Southern Breakers have played the Bunbury Brawlstars and Albany are bracing themselves for a very physical game.

“Bunbury are a very experienced team with a lot of heavy hitters and well-known players”, said Breakers captain Hazel Mitchell. “We have come back from the Nationals in Adelaide and thrown ourselves into more training and fitness to make sure we are ready.”

Roller derby is a sport dominated by women. It’s a full-contact sport played on quad roller skates. Teams play two 30-minute halves where teams each field a jammer who wears a star on their helmet. The jammer is the only player to score points and does this by passing the opposing players. The officials keep the game running and award penalties to players committing penalties.

The Track will reach the capacity of 250 people at the event and is sure to sell out just like previous Albany games. People are encouraged to buy their tickets early online. Children under 10 are free but must have a ticket allocated for them.

The Woodfired Catering Company will be firing up the pizza oven to feed everyone and there is a licensed bar and snack available at the Track. Local market stall owners will also be attending as a part of the league encouraging and empowering more women to run their own small business. “We wanted to show our support for women in Albany and having them along as small business owners and making awesome pizza is a move in this direction,” said ARDL President Natalie Jarvis.

Doors open at 6.15pm with the first whistle at 7 pm. The game will wrap up approximately 8.30pm with an after party at the Track until 10 pm which all are welcome to attend.
